CLOVER VALLEY STABLES LESSON POLICIES 2009-Please read carefully.

Dear Clover Valley Students,

We are happy to be entering into another busy season of lessons and shows. Please fill out the

attached registration form and release when you select your lesson time slot.

Michelle Levanitis and Cristin Wilbur are our instructors, both of whom are licensed and insured. Periodically, you may have a fill-in instructor who is also licensed and insured. Jessica Phillips is an assistant instructor and will also

be instructing.

Lessons are horsemanship lessons as well as riding, which means the students learn how to tack

and untack their horse, as well as grooming and handling basics. Students will be supervised tacking and

untacking by their instructor as part of their lesson time until they are able to do it themselves, at which

point they can come and get their horse ready to be in the ring at their designated lesson time. Your

instructor will let you know if you are ready to tack the horse yourself. Otherwise, you will be supervised

by the instructor as part of your lesson, and then you will go out into the ring together.

It is your instructor’s decision which horse you ride and at what rate you progress. We do our best

to match each rider to a horse that meets his or her needs. We believe in safe, fun learning, and will do

our best to ensure your lessons are productive and enjoyable.

Please arrive a few minutes early for your lesson and check in with your instructor to find out who

you are riding and what you have to do to get ready. If you are late, the time will be taken out of your

lesson as we cannot delay the lessons after yours.

Horses are not to be left alone on crossties! Please sweep your grooming area before and after

you ride. Please put your brushes and other items off to the side or hung up neatly while you are out

riding, and put everything away in its designated place when you’re done. Try to wipe down your tack

and rinse the bit if possible.

Proper Attire for Lessons:

Students must come properly dressed for their lessons. If your instructor determines that your

attire is unsafe, you may need to change or may not be able to ride that day.

· Pants: long pants, preferably riding pants or chaps. Pants should fit snugly.

· Shirts should be tucked in and not too baggy. Tank tops must be a sport-type tank top with proper coverage—no spaghetti straps!

· Jackets must be hip-length or shorter. They must be zipped during riding. Jackets should not have floppy hoods (no hood is better).

· ALL RIDERS must have proper footwear: riding boots with a smooth sole and low heel (about 1/2 in. heel) that fit well and go over your ankle. Work boots with tread on the bottom are not appropriate. Sneakers must not be worn.

· Hair must be tied back neatly in a low pony tail or braids. No jewelry.

· Riders should have riding gloves. Winter gloves are lined and have grips on the palms and fingers.

· Summer gloves are lightweight and also have grips.

· Riders should also purchase their own approved safety helmet. We do have some to borrow in the beginning but after a few lessons you should have your own.

Visitors/Other Family Members:

If you bring visitors, siblings, or other family members with you to the barn, they must adhere to

all barn policies and etiquette. The barn is a busy place with lots of potentially dangerous situations.

Please bring visitors at your discretion and ensure that they do not disrupt the barn or lessons. Visitors

should wait/watch from the picnic tables or benches, and must not be unsupervised in the barn. While

visitors are watching lessons, they must not be disruptive (no yelling, running, throwing balls, etc) as this

is distracting and possibly spooky for the horses. Please watch out at all times for horses coming

through or equipment. It is your responsibility to maintain your safety while on the property. NO DOGS

on Clover Valley property at any time!

Cancellation Policy:

Because we do not have an indoor, Clover Valley may need to cancel lessons due to weather

conditions, or on occasion, horse conditions. Your instructor will contact you in a timely manner if the

lesson is to be canceled. There is no charge to you if we cancel the lesson. If you are unsure about

weather conditions, please call a few hours before your lesson to inquire.

If you must cancel for any reason, the cancellation policy is as follows:

·  24 hours before start time of lesson: no cancellation charge

·  Same day cancellation more than 2 hours before lesson: $15 cancellation fee

·  Same day cancellation 2 hours or less from start time of lesson: $25 cancellation fee

Your cancellation fee must be included with your next lesson’s payment. In addition, if you don’t show

up for your lesson time for two weeks in a row, without proper notification from you, your slot will be

given away to someone else.

Emergency Contacts:

Please provide a name and phone number of an emergency contact that we can reach during your lesson time. While we maintain safety as a priority at all times, there are inherent risks with being around horses. We must be able to reach you if necessary.

Thank you! We are looking forward to a busy season!
